In a random survey of 3,200 certified pharmacy technicians (CPhTs), published in the Journal of the American Pharmacists Association in 2005, the following demographic information was gathered:

• Hospital: 27.3%
• Independent store: 15.9%
• Other: 5.2%
• Long-term care facility: 2.7%
• Mail service: 2.1%
• Managed care facility: 1.5%
• Military: 1.0%
• Pharmaceutical industry: 0.2%
• Educational/vocational program: 0.2%

Gender

• Female: 88.4%
• Male: 11.6%

Educational Degree Earned

• High school/equivalency: 79.9%
• Associate's degree: 15.0%
• Bachelor's degree: 13.9%
• Master's degree: 1.0%
• Other: 1.4%

State Licensure/Registration

• Licensed or registered by state: 72.9%
• Not licensed or registered: 27.1%
